How to Make a Great Cup of Coffee...

So how many different coffee pots have you had over the years?

The CLASSIC:

I think I always purchased Mr. Coffee brand.

The KEURIG:

Of course, I've always had the "Go BIG or Go HOME" model

Let's get honest, these don't last.  Luckily the company supported their product and sent free replacements.  However, I think they aren't quite as accommodating as a few years ago.  Get out your paper clips to try to fix it.

MR. COFFEE ESPRESSO MAKER:

At one point, I thought espresso was the way to go.  It is pretty good if you take the time to steam and froth the milk.  I still have it, but only use it once in awhile.  It is good if you are going to travel for the day...more caffeine less liquid intake. :)

The ELECTRIC PERCOLATOR:

I never had one of these, but my father-in-law always gave me coffee out of one.
I remember it being pretty strong, but it was always hot all day long.
Honestly, the coffee grounds on the loose kind of scare me.

BACK TO THE BASICS:

I was looking into these coffee pots, and come to find out...my mom had one from years ago!  I guess I don't need to buy one.  It makes a great cup!  All you need is hot water!

Here is a more expensive, yet very modern and appealing version.  It essentially does the same thing as the black mug my mom gave me - but on a "more caffeine" scale.

A Rescue Gone Bad

So I usually write a bit before showering, but today I decided to shower first, grabbed some coffee and headed to my office.  Since it is gorgeous out, I opened my window all the way...and noticed a pretty white butterfly. Okay, it was a moth, but it sounds better that I was trying to save a butterfly. I popped the screen up along the bottom to let it out.  Well the screen also popped to the outside of the house at the top.  Uh oh.  So I let the beautiful "butterfly" out...and the screen.

Now, how do I get this thing back in?  It is long...I am short.  It isn't going in.  Maybe I have to be outside?  I let the window drop to the outside.  I head outside (with all the daycare parents watching me)...nope, definitely doesn't go in from the outside.

Back inside I go.  Okay, it is nice out, but still humid.  So much for a shower.  I try again. Ugh.  Where is Paul?  I text him in case he happens to be near.  I knew he wasn't, but I was stuck.  It is a gorgeous day and now I can't keep my window open because it doesn't have screen.  Come on in, all you gorgeous...stupid..."butterflies."  Nope, he is in La Porte City.  Okay, you are a grown woman, not helpless, you can do this.

Okay, I got it.  I have to take off both parts of the window. Yes, they are the "easy" to clean kind that fold down.  So I got them out.  Yep, open air for all the daycare parents to see.  Hope they didn't hear my few choice words. Cover the wee ones' ears.  So it still won't go in?  Oh wait, it looks a little (maybe a lot) bent - hmm, no idea how that happened (whoops).  Well,  it stills goes in with it bent.  Yes, now I have a screen back in the window.

I refuse to leave the rest of the window on the floor.  Self-talk - I am capable and smarter than a window (maybe not a 5th grader, but definitely a window).  I am short. Windows are heavy.   I need a much wider wing span. No pun intended.  I look more closely at the window.  Grrr...I guess I should clean them - off to get the Windex and paper towels.  I now have clean windows - inside and out. Time to try again...   Okay so I got the top part in, but won't stay up.  Anyone need a Guillotine?  (Yes, I had to look up how to spell that!)

I finally got it to stay up.  (Wipe the sweat off my face.)  Now for the bottom part.  It. will. not. go. in.  No way. It can't be this hard.  Mind you I have been on a step stool most of this time for leverage purposes. I prop up the window on the floor and head to the living room to look at a "model" window. Oh crap...I was trying to put it in upside down.  Clearly I am not rational at this point, and I am not smarter than a window.

Now I can put it in.  It's in...but it won't open?!  You STUPID, ugly moth.  I see these little track things. Okay, I must have to put it in above those?  FINALLY, it is in.  I am hot. It doesn't seem so nice out anymore. My coffee is cold.  And I hate that moth - wherever he is.

I think I will go call my chiropractor...and nuke my coffee.

P.S.  Not all of my rescues go bad.  At 7 a.m. I headed outside to save one of these little guys from my cat.  I grabbed the cat and brought her in.  The chipmunk is no longer shaking in the yard, so he got way. This time...

Scripture Sunday - Trust

I was recently tagged in a Facebook post (by my daughter) to share my favorite bible verse.  The idea is once you are tagged, you must do it.  Then you nominate others to do the same task.  While I have several favorite bible verses, I don't really have one life verse.  However, I do have a bible word that has guided me throughout many stages and events in my life.

The word is:  TRUST.

Why trust?
Trust helps take the worry out of life. Trust that God will provide and take care of you and your loved ones.

Trust helps explain events that have no explanation.  Through some pretty rough times, I trust that one day God's purpose will be clear and amazing...even if it seems unbearable here on earth.  God always has a plan.  Trust His plan not your own. (Lord knows I have had some pretty messed up plans.)

Trust that He died for our sins.  This doesn't give us an excuse to sin; however, it does mean that Jesus is always waiting for us with open arms no matter how broken we think we are.

Trust gives you HOPE.

Trust occurs 188 times (depending on which version and from which source you obtain your data) in the bible.  Clearly, God was sending the message that trust is important, actually necessary in our lives.

2 Samuel 7:28
O Sovereign LORD, you are God! Your words are trustworthy, and you have promised these good things to your servant.

Psalm 9:10

Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.

Psalm 13:5
But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.

Psalm 56:3
When I am afraid, I will trust in you.

Psalm 62:8

Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us.

Psalm 84:12
O LORD Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in you.

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;  in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

John 14:1
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.

Romans 15:13
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

2 Samuel 22:31
As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.

I think Leah (In Genesis 29-30) learned to trust God with all her heart. Here is a summary:

Laban had two daughters; the older daughter was named Leah, and the younger daughter was named Rachel. Rachel had the body of a goddess and the face of a super-model. Leah is simply described as having “weak” eyes. (The word “weak” is often translated as “tender” in the Old Testament. It does not denote a defect, but instead, describes the quality of gentleness.) Jacob immediately fell head over heels in love with Rachel. He told Laban that he would work seven years for Laban and as payment, he would get to marry Rachel. Both men shook hands on the deal.

At the end of the seven years, Laban swindled Jacob by switching Leah for Rachel towards the end of the marriage ceremony. Jacob thought he was spending the night with Rachel, but Laban had cunningly substituted Leah in her place. It is important to realize that women during this time frame were treated as property. Since marriages were arranged, the wishes of a daughter were not taken into consideration. Since both Leah and Rachel were under Laban's authority, they had to do what they were told. I don't think either daughter wanted to go along with the deception, but they were given no choice. They were not allowed to say “no.”

Jacob of course was furious about the deception. The swindler had been swindled. He did not want Leah, he wanted Rachel. Jacob and Laban worked out another deal for another seven years of service. When the seven-day marriage ritual with Leah was complete, Jacob immediately married Rachel.

We don't really know Leah's thoughts throughout this whole ordeal. However, I think we would be safe to assume Leah wasn't happy. However, I believe Leah slowly learned to look less to Jacob and more to God for happiness.  Leah learned to put her focus on God. God eventually turned Jacob's heart to Leah and he loved her more than he had ever loved Rachel. While Leah was waiting all those years for God to turn Jacob's heart to her, she never gave up hope. During all those years that she was unloved, God continued to bless Leah. During all those years that Leah was unloved by her husband, God never stopped loving her.

Too many times in our lives, we look to others for happiness.  We let others determine our happiness....Or we seek to have others make our happiness...or blame them when we aren't happy.  We need the trust in Jesus for our happiness. Only then (when we are truly happy in a trusting relationship with Jesus) can we have truly happy relationships with others.

 Because He Lives!

God sent His Son
They called Him Jesus
He came to love, heal and forgive
He lived and died to buy my pardon
An empty grave is there to prove my Saviour lives

Because He lives I can face tomorrow
Because He lives all fear is gone
Because I know He holds the future
And life is worth the living just because He lives

And then one day
I'll cross that river
I'll fight life's final war with pain
And then as death gives way to vict'ry
I'll see the lights of glory and I'll know he lives

Because He lives I can face tomorrow
Because He lives all fear is gone
Because I know He holds the future
And life is worth the living just because He lives

Bathroom Soap Money Saving Tip

Bathroom Soap Money Saving Tip

Are you out of soap?  Too busy to run to the store?

No worries!

You likely have SOMETHING under your
bathroom sink that will work just fine.

Trust me...

soap is soap is soap..

But wait (you say) I have a foaming soap dispenser...
YES, this will work for your recycled foaming dispenser, too!

Choose one...remember soap is soap is soap...

Okay, so you want to be REALLY frugal?

Then choose this ONE:

However, I am going to choose the Softsoap below because
it is a large bottle taking up space in my bathroom.

It has lasted FOREVER!

Ha Ha...I just noticed the bottle says 450+ dispenses.

Yeah, right.

Take that times a million...

Well maybe not a million but close.

Fill it up - maybe about 1/2 inch?  I'm not great at estimating!

Just squirt some in...

Now for a trick...

Turn the water on and let it get HOT.

Is it hot yet?

Turn it down - you don't want BUBBLES everywhere.

If you don't turn it down, you won't get
much water  in the dispenser because

BUBBLES

will be in the way!

Fill it slowly with HOT water.

Keep going...

Look! Full of water and not tons of BUBBLES!

Put the LID on.  Now SHAKE it up!

See you were worried it wouldn't be "soapy" enough.

Now you have BUBBLES at the appropriate time.

There you have it!

The most FRUGAL soap EVER!

Well, maybe not ever...

but it IS easy

AND inexpensive!

ENJOY!
